My Old Kentucky Blog

My Old Kentucky Blog follows a similar suit to Gorilla vs. Bear, operating as a fairly non-subjective blog providing mp3s of music they consider "great". As with many other blogs, there are options to link any post on the blog to a personal Twitter, Facebook, or Myspace account as well as options to Digg a post or to email it to someone. These options are making it possible for the blogosphere to spread wider and wider, reaching greater audiences than just the usual readers of music blogs.

MOKB has its own radio show on Sirius XM comprised of a play list created by the bloggers of MOKB. This is an incredibly strong way for them to spread their musical tastes because it provides a radio format, breaking the boundaries of the Web. The play list for this week is certainly representative of all past play lists; it contains currently popular tracks that are being frequently blogged about all across the Web for various reasons, most often due to an upcoming or recent album release or recent activity of a band, like touring or signing to a new record label. Some of the tracks on this play list are available for listening right on the blog while others are obviously under copyright and are intended for purchasing only. In addition to the standard DJ playing songs formula, MOKB also records live sessions of bands in the studio, which are then broadcasted on the radio show. Here is yet another example of the spread of influence blogs have into the mainstream. The fact that self-published music blog has its own radio show means that the popularity of this publishing format is going beyond its originally intended borders.

There are several advertisements on the right side of the blog, probably supplementing for the costs of studio time to record live sessions of bands. The ads are all music-related, some even connected to other music blogs. Below these ads is a long list of band names linked to their respective websites.

On one of the banners running down the left side of the blog (separate from the posts), a call for submissions is displayed. This gives musicians an opportunity to submit their music with the hopes of being blogged about and getting the word out about their music. In the modern digital age, this seems to be one of the most significant ways to gain attention in a world where music more or less spreads solely through the Internet. Also on this banner are contact links for complaints and requests for song removal, links to a MOKB Facebook group, contacts for recording for their radio show, and even a link to Facebook application.
