The Hype Machine
The Hype Machine is a blog of only mp3 files. There is no editorial input, creating a pure listening experience for users. The blog is a sort of hub for many other music blogs, pulling tracks that are being blogged about the most on a selected list of top blogs throughout the Web and sharing them with their readers. In a sense, this makes for the least opinionated blogging experience. There are no descriptions with strong adjectives that hint at subjectivity on the part of the blogger.
There is an option to add a track to your favorites list by clicking on a small heart to the right of the track name. This is the only option for users to really interact as there is no comment section for posts. The more a track is favorited, the higher it appears on the Popular section. At the bottom of each post, there are links to download the song on iTunes and eMusic. This help promotes the artist in a monetary sense, helping bands make money instead of just promoting them and enticing users to go and download their album illegally elsewhere.
